What are Horse Clippers?
horse clippers are basically used to keep different areas on the horse neatly trimmed and/or shaved, or for entire body grooming. You may want to trim your horse for an upcoming show, or just for health and sanitary reasons, but either way, horse clippers will help you do this the correct way.
Horse clippers come in a variety shapes and sizes, with different features and controls. Weight is a key factor and you might want to try an ergonomically shaped clipper which is smaller and fits into your hand more comfortably. You can buy horse clippers that are electric, or cordless battery operated, with an optional battery charger.
Horse clipper models are designed with specific features for different clippings, and care should be taken when purchasing. You want to make sure you find the correct model for your horse and their specific needs. Four things to consider are the model, the size, the power (electric or battery), and the speed (muliple speeds). If you are only grooming once in a while, you don’t really need a huge powerful motor, and a compact clipper might do. If on the other hand, you are going to use it frequently or you need winter hair removed, greater power is needed. Many horse experts do agree that you should purchase clippers that are heavy duty and more powerful because they are more durable, faster, stay cooler, and provide better cuts. Keep in mind also, if your horse spooks easily or is nervous, the higher the power range, the more noise the horse clipper makes.
Heavy duty clippers are generally constructed to handle full body clippings, helping to rid larger masses of hair. These clippers are for bigger jobs and are usually more durable with larger casings. Medium range horse clippers are used basically just for general clipping, can be also used for trimming whiskers, and clipping around the head, neck, and leg areas.
Horse clippers have been around for over 100 years and Sunbeam was actually the first to make them, although the name wasn’t used at that time. Back in the 1890s, John Stewart and Thomas Clark, made mechanical horse clippers in Chicago, and soon started selling them to the public. The name Sunbeam did not appear on their products until around 1921, and was officially the company name in 1946.
